When to consider Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy may be helpful if your child:

  • Is difficult to understand when speaking
  • Has trouble understanding or using words and sentences
  • Is not yet talking as expected for their age
  • Finds reading, writing or spelling difficult
  • Has difficulty with play, interaction or social communication
  • Stutters or has changes in speech fluency
  • Has voice concerns, such as ongoing hoarseness or strain
  • Has difficulty with feeding, swallowing or mealtimes
  • Needs support communicating with AAC tools or technology
  • Has been recommended for speech therapy by a teacher, GP, paediatrician or other health professiona
